Speaker Biographies

 

JACK ALLEN

Mr. Allen is president of Asia for Westinghouse responsible for integrating the company products and services capabilities, and executing business for the benefit of customers across the region.  As the one face of Westinghouse in Asia he interfaces with customers, partners, suppliers and the principal shareholder enabling timely, local decision making for matters strategic to these stakeholders.  

In addition, as President and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Japan KK (WEJ), Jack Allen is responsible for growing Westinghouse’s presence and expanding its businesses in Japan. Mr. Allen and his team provide in-country focus to the Voices of the Customers in Japan and Asia. Mr. Allen assumed this position in July 2009.

On July 1, 2010, Mr. Allen was appointed Chairman, Nuclear Fuel Industries, Ltd. (NFI), the sole Japanese producer of both PWR and BWR nuclear fuel and related services. Westinghouse acquired 52% ownership of NFI in May 2009.

From May 2005 through June 2009, Mr. Allen was senior vice president, Operational Excellence, responsible for Customer 1^st, the Westinghouse behavioral and operational change initiative focused on customer-centric continuous improvement in company operations.

Prior to the Customer 1^st assignment, Mr. Allen was senior vice president, Nuclear Power Plants. He was responsible for the new plant business, satisfying valued customers in Korea and Japan. He assumed this position in December 2003.

From March 2001 through December 2003 Mr. Allen was head of operations, MOX (Mixed Oxide fuel), for the BNFL Sellafield facility in the United Kingdom. In this position, Mr. Allen helped commission and expand operations by providing valuable manufacturing expertise.

In his career, Mr. Allen held key manufacturing and operations roles in Westinghouse including vice president of U.S. Manufacturing responsible for manufacturing operations of all the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel plants in the United States and plant manager for the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility.  He held management positions in engineering, materials, manufacturing, welding engineering and technical services.

Mr. Allen has over 40 years of Westinghouse experience in the nuclear field.  He has a Bachelor and Master of Science in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a registered professional engineer.

MARC ANDOLENKO

 

Marc Andolenko is a graduate of the French Business School ESLSCA and holds a masters degree in economics.

 

As a former graduate of the French Institute of Higher National Defence Studies (IHEDN), he began his career at Price Waterhouse in Paris. Then he joined AREVA NC in 1992 as a senior auditor in the internal audit department. He was CFO at SGN (Engineering Business Unit) from 1995 to 1998 before being appointed Executive Vice President for Finance at AREVA NC. In June 2004, he took over the position of Corporate Senior Vice President of Audit of AREVA group.

 

Since April 2008, he has been President AREVA China. In June 2009, he was appointed French Foreign Trade Advisor

 

 

JEFF BRINER

 

Jeff is a Director with the NDS division of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has 25+ years of Asset and Work Management Business transformation project experience, including 15 years in nuclear. Jeff has successfully executed nuclear EAM projects at First Energy, New York Power Authority, TVA, PG&E, Ontario Power Generation. He is currently directing a business transformation project for China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation.  Jeff has extensive experience with leading work management solutions including SAP, Maximo and Ventyx (Indus Passport).

 

CAO SHUDONG

 

Cao Shudong is Director of the Department of Plan & Development at the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).

 

He was born in 1963 and holds a BSc degree in Nuclear Power. His first appointment was as in 1991 as an engineer with the Algeria multi-purpose heavy water research reactor and he joined the China Institute of Atomic Energy in 1992. From 1996-1998, he was with the China National Nuclear Corporation and then joined the China National Defense Technology Department from 1998-2003. In 2003-2006, he was with the IAEA China group and then returned to the China National Defense Technology Department. In 2008, he joined the National Energy Department and in January 2010, assumed his present position with CNNC.

 

CHRISTOPHER CRANE

 

Christopher Crane is President and Chief Operating Officer of Exelon Corporation and President of Exelon Generation.

 

Mr Crane has worked in the nuclear industry for 30 years. He joined Exelon (then ComEd) in 1998, and was named Chief Nuclear Officer in 2004. He was a key player in the dramatic turnaround of ComEd nuclear performance,and the development of Exelon’s proprietary Nuclear Management Model, a codification of industry-leading operational, safety, management, regulatory, workforce

and financial practices.

 

 Mr Crane assumed responsibility for Exelon’s fossil, hydro and renewables facilities, in addition to the nuclear fleet, in 2007. He has directed a broad range of generation and business development initiatives,including new nuclear development, nuclear operating services, development of the nation’s largest urban solar project, innovative decommissioning strategies, and asset optimization. He was instrumental in establishing corporate citizenship and public outreach as a plant priority.

 

Prior to joining Exelon, Mr Crane served as Browns Ferry Nuclear site vice president for the Tennessee Valley Authority, and worked in new plant start-up at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant in Texas and Palo Verde Nuclear Plant in Arizona.

 

Mr Crane is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO),

and a member of the executive committee of Nuclear Energy Institute, where he has also served as

chairman of the New Plant Oversight Committee, and as a member of the Nuclear Strategic Issues Advisory Committee, the Nuclear Fuel Supply Committee, and the Materials Initiative Group. He is chairman of the World Nuclear Association, promoting the peaceful worldwide use of nuclear energy. He is on the board of the Foundation for Nuclear Studies.

 

Mr Crane studied at New Hampshire Technical College, and attended Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He has held a senior reactor operator certification.

 

SASHI DAVIES

 

Sashi Davies is Head of Marketing at Extract Resources UK Ltd.  Prior to taking up this position in September 2010, she was the managing director of S D Energy Associates Limited, an independent company providing brokerage and consultancy services to the nuclear fuel industry. She has over 25 years experience in the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle.

Mrs Davies began her career in the nuclear industry in 1980 with the UK Central Electricity Generating Board as a reactor physicist at the Dungeness "A" nuclear power station. She later served as senior market analyst with the British Civil Uranium Procurement Organisation. From 1988 to 1998 Mrs Davies was employed at Rio Tinto Mineral Services Limited  marketing  uranium from the Rossing mine in Namibia. She joined the company as Market Research Economist and held a succession of marketing roles before being appointed Commercial Director. Mrs Davies has also worked for The Uranium Exchange Company and The Ux Consulting Company in Europe as a consultant and broker and Nufcor International Limited in a marketing and trading role.

 

Mrs Davies holds a BSc in Nuclear Engineering from Manchester University and a MBA from the University of Westminster.

 

TONY DE VUONO

 

Dr. Anthony (Tony) De Vuono was appointed Senior Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) in August 2009.  He is responsible for AECL’s Technology Group which includes: ACR-1000 & EC6 Development Programs, Reactor Engineering, the Office of the Chief Engineer and Research & Development, some of which is conducted in collaboration with the Chalk River and Whiteshell Laboratories.  Dr. De Vuono’s primary responsibility is the development of AECL technology, ensuring that AECL products have superior features with competitive costs while fully meeting all applicable safety and licensing requirements.

 

Prior to joining AECL, Dr. De Vuono served as Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer at Modine Manufacturing Company in Wisconsin; Staff Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (University of California at Berkeley); and Principal Research Scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute in Ohio.  In these positions, he was accountable for major global research programs in long-term product development cycles.

Dr. De Vuono received a bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering as well as a master's degree and a doctorate in nuclear engineering from Ohio State University. He began his career in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Program, has also held faculty positions at Ohio State University and the University of Illinois, where he taught nuclear engineering courses at both introductory and advanced levels in areas such as nuclear heat transfer.  He has garnered six U.S. patents, with an additional 2 pending, and has authored numerous publications.

JACK EDLOW

 

Mr. Edlow has worked in the nuclear industry since 1969 and has become one of the premier experts in the field of transport logistics of radioactive materials.  He is President of Edlow International Company. Mr. Edlow has served on numerous boards including the World Nuclear Association, the Nuclear Energy Institute, and the U S Transport Council.  He also serves as Chairman of the IAEA Steering Group on Shipment Denial. 

 

He was appointed to the Civil Nuclear Trade Advisory Commission in 2010 and to the Trade Advisory Commission on Africa in 2006 and again in 2010.

GEORGE FELGATE

 

George Felgate was appointed Managing Director of WANO in September 2009.

 

Prior to this position he served as Vice President of Plant Operations at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in the US. Mr Felgate joined INPO in 1982 and served in a variety of positions including Vice President of the Analysis and Administration Divisions, Director of Personnel, and Manager of the Operations, Training Resources, and Emergency Preparedness Departments.

He also completed assignments to the Koeberg nuclear power plant in South Africa, and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  Prior to joining INPO, Mr Felgate worked for the Westinghouse Fast Flux Test Facility and the US Navy.

 

He has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the US Naval Academy and a master’s degree in computer systems management from the US Naval Post Graduate School.

 

HU SHIHAI

 

Hu Shihai serves as Chief Engineer of China Huaneng Group.

 

He had been Assistant President, Director General of the Safety Supervision and Environmental Protection Department of China Huaneng Group, and Chairman of Huaneng Shaanxi Power Generation Co., Ltd. before he was promoted to current position in November 2010. Before that, he had successively served as Assistant General Manager, Deputy General Manager of Huaneng Shidongkou No.2 Power Plant, Deputy Director General Manager of the Preparation Division for Shanghai Power Co. Waigaoqiao Power Plant Phase Two Project. Later, he had been Assistant President, and General Manager of the Safety and Production Department of Huaneng Power International Inc.

 

Mr. HU was born in 1954 in Zhejiang province. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Thermal Power Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

 

JOSEPH HUSE

 

Jose Huse is the managing partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Middle East and Africa practice and is head of its International Nuclear PowerGroup.

 

His practice consists primarily of infrastructure and energy projects. In particular, Joe has extensive experience in all aspects of nuclear new build. He is a member of the International Nuclear Law Association and co-chairs the World Nuclear Association’s Nuclear Law and Contracting working group. Joseph is also the author of the book Understanding and Negotiating Turnkey and EPC Contracts. He is currently advising the Kingdom of Bahrain on the development of its nuclear power

programme and Westinghouse on Abu Dhabi’s nuclear power programme and is assisting the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa and the Arab Network of Nuclear Regulators. He previously acted for the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organisation, created by the Governments of the United States, Japan and South Korea, in relation to the supply and construction by KEPCO of two

1,000 light water reactors in North Korea.

 

FARZAM KAMALABADI

 

Farzam Kamalabadi is President and Chairman of Future Trends International Group.

 

He has lived in China for more than 20 years and been active in high level international economic cooperation, geopolitical affairs and cultural exchanges. A Persian American, born and raised in Iran, educated in Boston,  he is one of the very few personalities widely acclaimed both by the Chinese media and also recognized by the China government leadership at large as a true "China Hand" and a leading authority on China.

 

Kamalabadi reads and writes Persian, English and Chinese, speaking Mandarin as a native, as well as a number of other dialects such as Cantonese and Shanghainese. In 1993, he established Future Trends International (Group) Corporation, a specialist US-registered international corporation engaged in investment and trade consulting, oil and gas and energy advisory, government lobbying, capital raising and fund management services, etc. It is recognized as a leader in grassroots government, enterprise, and media relations and networking throughout China. This network encompasses over 900 Mayors or Deputy Mayors, as well as over 50 Governors or Deputy Governors in over 250 cities in virtually every province of China. Moreover, it covers hundreds of media organizations, thousands of local government agencies, numerous private and public entities and prominent personalities.

 

On the national level, Future Trends enjoys equally effective relationship with major ministries, agencies, prominent personalities; and with over 100 individual leaders in the top Central Government circles in the ministerial level and above, many of whom are supporters of Future Trends

 

STEVE KIDD

 

Steve Kidd is Director of Strategy & Research at the World Nuclear Association, the international association for nuclear energy based in London.

 

After a brief period as an economics tutor at Sheffield University, he followed a career as an industrial economist with leading UK companies. These specialized in the raw materials and engineering sectors and included Rio Tinto and Rover Cars. He practiced as an independent consultant from 1990 onwards and then joined the former Uranium Institute as Senior Research Officer in 1995. He assumed his present position when the Institute became the World Nuclear Association in 2001.     

 

He received his bachelors and masters degrees in economics from Queens’ College, University of Cambridge and was the winner of the Adam Smith Prize. He authors many articles on the commercial aspects of nuclear power, is a frequent speaker at conferences and meetings around the world and is the author of the book Core Issues – Dissecting Nuclear Power Today. Finally, he organizes and teaches at training courses for nuclear professionals in developing nuclear countries on behalf of the World Nuclear University.

 

DOMINIC KIERAN

 

Dominic holds the position of Director, Supply with URENCO Enrichment Company. Based in the UK, Dominic has the responsibility for managing the Group’s global supply chain. This includes the management of the Group’s assets, production optimisation, uranium purchasing, transport and a range of business development activities.

 

Prior to joining URENCO, Dominic had experience across various industries, which includes chemical technology development, chemical plant operations, IP licensing as well as working within the consulting arena, specialising in program management. He has worked extensively overseas including in the US and Russia.

 

Dominic holds a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London and an MBA.

 

ROLF KWASNY

Dr. Rolf Kwasny joined NUKEM in 1986 where he started as a R&D project leader in the research and development division. Since 1995, he has been active in the nuclear business, with more than 10 years of experience in the fuel cycle consulting and research business. In 2007, Dr. Kwasny became senior manager of NUKEM’s fuel services division and is mainly active in fuel trading and market analysis.

He is the current team leader of WNA Market Report Drafting Groups’s sub-group “Secondary Supplies”.

Dr. Kwasny received a diploma’s degree in nuclear engineering and a PhD in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH). He is a member of the German nuclear society.

 

RICHARD LANCASTER

 

Richard Lancasteris the Managing Director for CLP Power with the overall responsibility for CLP’s electricity operations in Hong Kong including power generation, supply and service to over 5.7 million people in Kowloon and the New Territories. 

 

Richard graduated as an electrical engineer from the University of New South Wales in Australia and has spent over 25 years in the electricity supply industry in Australia, UK and Hong Kong.  He moved to Hong Kong when he joined CLP in 1992, and he now considers Hong Kong his home.  He has held a wide range of management positions in CLP and prior to taking up his current position he devoted much of his time to developing infrastructure for new, cleaner energy sources, including natural gas and renewable energy.

 

DAVID LANDON

 

David Landon is Technical Director of International Nuclear Services. He has a wide range of experience, leading and managing projects and engineering businesses.

 

He has worked in senior management roles in a range of industry sectors including airports, water utilities, rail and most recently nuclear. He worked for GEC, APV, Siemens and Cegelec before joining British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL) 7 years ago.

 

Within the former BNFL, David was responsible for a sizeable portfolio of engineering activi­ties and capital projects on the Sellafield site. Notable amongst these, David was pro­ject director for a significant repair of the Thorp plant. He also led a number of improvement initiatives across the site, for example improvements to shutdown management systems.

 

David joined International Nuclear Services Ltd (INS) in 2006, and is the Technical Director of the company. He is responsible for all engineering and project activities. One of the most signifi­cant projects in David’s portfolio is the construction of three INF class 3 ships as part of the renewal of INS’ PNTL fleet. He has executive responsibility for overseeing the pre­parations for the return of High-Level Waste (HLW) to overseas customers, which commenced in 2010 with shipments to Japan and the Netherlands. He oversaw the com­pletion of the transition of INS from BNFL to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), and has executive responsibility for the strategic development of the company and for business development activities.

 

STEVEN LAU

 

Steven Lau is First Deputy General Manager, Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Co., Ltd.

 

In 1992 to 1993, he received 18 months of nuclear training and experience at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in South Africa. From 1993 to 2000, he worked at Daya Bay Power Station in different positions of  Deputy Head of Operation and Maintenance Departments, Deputy Plant Manager and Plant Manager. From 2000 to 2003, he was First Deputy General Manager, Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company Ltd. He assumed his current position in 2003.

 

MIN LI

 

Min Li is the vice president, business development and chief representative for China of the Power Group of the Shaw Group Inc. Mr Li has ten years of extensive experience in business development, marketing and sales for the Shaw Group’s premier nuclear A/E design, engineering, procurement, information management systems, construction management, project management, commissioning and start up services to the China Nuclear Power Industry.  And also, in promotion, marketing and sales for the Shaw Group’s ethylene and ethylene derivative technology licensing, process design, basic engineering design, procurement, construction management, commissioning and start up services to the China Petrochemical Industry.  He has successfully won over fifteen nuclear power plant contracts, as well as ethylene and ethylene derivative plant contracts in China, which range from technology licensing and process design package contracts to full engineering, procurement, and construction lump sum turn key contracts with a total sales revenue of approximately USD1.4 billion.

 

 Mr Li also has over ten years of technical experience in technology research & development, process engineering design, procurement, technical services, and project management of ethylene, ethylene derivative plants and fluid catalytic cracking units.

 

He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from China University of Petroleum, Shandong, China in 1985 and a Master of Science in Control Systems Engineering from West Virginia University, West Virginia, USA in 1993.

KLAUS LOWREY

Klaus Lohrey is Managing Director of NUKEM GmbH, headquartered in Alzenau, Germany. He has almost 25 years of experience in the nuclear industry.

 

After graduating from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences as a Chemical Engineer, Mr Lohrey worked for 8 years in R&D before joining NUKEM in 1985 as Project Manager for its then operational chemical process plant.

 

In 1989 he moved to NUKEM’s Fuel Cycle Services Division. Mr. Lohrey became Head of the Uranium Trading department in 1996 and was promoted to Director of NUKEM's Fuel Services Division in 2005. On 1 April 2009, Klaus Lohrey ws appointed Managing Director of NUKEM GmbH.

MA HONGLIN

Ma Honglin is Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA) and a senior economist.

 

He acted as Deputy Director of Cadre Department and Deputy Director of the Labor and Wages Department of the Ministry of Nuclear Industry; as Director of the Office of Labor and Wages, the Office of Material Supply and Sale and the Office of Safety of the China National Nuclear Corporation; as Director of Office, Deputy Secretary General and Secretary of the Expert Advisory Committee of Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

 

He graduated from the Military Engineering Institute of the PLA in 1968 with a major in atomic engineering

MICHAEL MICKLINGHOFF

Dr. Michael Micklinghoff (b. 1947) studied physics at the universities of Münster, Hamburg in Germany and Kingston/Ontario (Canada): he holds a Master of Science and PhD in nuclear physics.

 

In 1982 he joined the company which was eventually to become today’s E.ON Nuclear, based in Germany. He served as Head of Nuclear Regulation and Policy and later as Senior Vice President, New Nuclear Development/Projects.

 

He has been a member of the EUR Steering Committee (European Utility Requirements), ENISS Steering Committee (European Nuclear Installations Safety Standards) and the KTA Board (German Nuclear Safety Standards).

 

Dr. Micklinghoff is founding member of the CORDEL Group (Cooperation in Reactor Design Evaluation & Licensing) in the World Nuclear Association. Since 2008 he has been CORDEL’s Chairman and has also served on the WNA Board of Management.

JEAN-BAPTISTE MONNIER

Jean-Baptiste Monnier has served as Bentley’s senior vice president of Asia Operations since 2005.

From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Monnier headed Bentley Plant Sales for the International Operating Unit in Paris, France. He joined Bentley in 1994 to serve as vice president of corporate marketing and was later appointed to manage the Geoengineering (Geospatial and Civil) Software Division. Prior to joining Bentley, Dr. Monnier headed an engineering department at DUMEZ, an international EPC, now part of Vinci, and a research lab at the French CRNS.

 He holds a Ph.D. from the Aerospace Engineering Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and an Executive M.B.A. from CPA in Paris.

FLETCHER NEWTON

 

Fletcher Newton is the Executive Vice President for Strategic Affairs for Uranium One, Inc. which operates uranium production projects in Kazakhstan, the United States, and Australia. From 1997 until joining Uranium One in January 2007 he was first General Counsel and then President of Power Resources, Inc., Cameco Corporation’s U.S. subsidiaries, where he oversaw the Smith Ranch-Highland Uranium Project in Wyoming, and the Crow Butte Uranium Project in Nebraska. 

 

Mr. Newton has worked in the nuclear fuel industry for 19 years. While at Cameco, he helped negotiate and then oversee implementation of the Russian-American “Megatons-to-Megawatts” agreement, working extensively with Techsnabexport and the Russian Ministry of Atomic Energy. 

 

Mr. Newton is a native of Denver, Colorado and received his B.A. degree in 1978 from Harvard University (Magna Cum Laude, Soviet Studies). He is a graduate of the CIEE Program at the University of Leningrad (1976-1977) and received his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1983 after transferring there from Georgetown University.

 

Mr. Newton is based in Denver, Colorado (USA) but spends approximately one-half his time in Russia and Kazakhstan, working with ARMZ and KazAtomProm.   

 

KIYOSHI OKAMURA

 

Since 2008, Mr. Kiyoshi Okamura has served as vice president of Nuclear Energy Systems & Services Division at Toshiba Power Systems Company. He is responsible for the entire Toshiba’s nuclear business concerning front- and back-end fuel cycle and next generation reactors such as the fast breeder reactor and nuclear fusion reactor, etc.

 

He joined Toshiba in 1981 and focused on project management in the NPP Construction and Operation Division. In 1999, Mr. Okamura was promoted to Manager of Operating Plant Sales & Marketing Department, Nuclear Energy Division. Over the next five few years, he assumed a couple of manager positions with increasing responsibilities in several departments. From 2003 to 2008, he served as general manager of Nuclear Power Plant Business Unit and Nuclear Service Business Unit.

 

He received a Master Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Osaka University in 1981. His extracurricular activities include scuba diving, tennis and golf. In addition, he has fifteen years in Karate training and holds a second-degree black belt.

 

AKIRA OZAKI

 

Mr. Akira Ozaki is Senior Fellow and supervises Toshiba’s Advanced Energy Technology since 2009.

 

 He joined Toshiba Corporation in 1979 and had engaged in nuclear fusion system development. He was appointed the senior manager of Advanced Energy Plant Sales & Marketing Department in 2002.

 

He received master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from The University of Tokyo in 1979.

 

PENG XINJIAN

Dr. Peng has a Ph. D in Uranium Geology and is Professor and General Engineer of CGNPC Uranium Resources Co., Ltd. and uranium resource expert of National Energy Administration, PR China.

He has 22 years of working experience in uranium exploration and mining management, which includes over 4 years in uranium prospecting and exploration operation in Guangxi, Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces of China and over 10 years in related project management with BOGC and NNC.

In 2004, Dr. Peng joined the overseas uranium development business with the position of Deputy General Engineer and later General Engineer of CGNPC Uranium Resources Co., Ltd.   Now he is also the principal deputy general manager and CFO of Semyzbay-U LLP.

He has reached a clear understanding of uranium exploration and mining business development in the world by a great number of surveys of the uranium projects in Canada, Kazakhstan, Uzbekstan, Australia, South Africa, Namibia, Central Africa and Niger. He keeps a close relationship with the world-famous uranium producers such as Kazatomprom, Areva, BHP Billiton, RioTinto, Cameco and Navoi.

 

MICHEL PIERRAT

 

Michel Pierrat is the CEO of EDF’s Asia Pacific Branch – China Division.

 

He joined EDF’s Nuclear Department in 1980, in the Engineering and Construction Division in Marseille as an Engineer (Quality Control; Safety). From 1986 to 1992, he worked at Evry, latterly as Site Quality Control Manager and from 1992 to 1998 at Penly and Civaux (N4) nuclear power plants as a Project Manager. From 1998 to 2002, he was based at Ling Ao nuclear power plant as Senior Project Manager. From 2002 to 2008, he was in EDF’s Thermal Department, Engineering and Construction Division, based in Paris as Deputy Director of Engineering Branch, Phu My CCTG Project Director (Vietnam) and latterly as Director of Project Management Branch. He moved to Beijing in 2008 as EDF Asia Pacific Branch Vice President and assumed his current position in October 2010.    

 

M. Pierrat graduated from the "Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers" of Paris in 1979.    

 

JOHN RITCH

 

John Ritch is Director General of the Word Nuclear Association (WNA).

 

He came to the WNA in January 2001 after seven years as US ambassador to UN organizations in Vienna, among them the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty

Organization. In Vienna, he was active in promoting the IAEA’s global strengthened-safeguards system and new conventions on nuclear safety. He participated in the US-North Korea nuclear negotiations and the UN Conferences reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1995 and 2000.

 

Previously, John Ritch was a staff adviser to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 22 years, specializing in East-West relations and nuclear arms control. During that period, he was also an entrepreneur, heading a real estate development company and co-founding a multinational

enterprise marketing fitness-related products throughout Europe.

 

 He is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and holds a Master’s degree in philosophy,

politics and economics from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.

 

SHOZO SAITO

 

Shozo Saito became Chairman of the Board of Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd. on April 1, 2010.

 

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Saito served as a Senior Vice President & Executive Officer of Hitachi, Ltd. since 2006, which is the mother company of Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd. Mr. Saito started his career with Hitachi, Ltd. at the Hitachi Works,Nuclear Power Plant Engineering Department in 1970 and has more than 40 years of extensive experience in the Nuclear and Power & Industrial Systems with great responsibilities in Hitachi group.

 

Mr. Saito was appointed as a member of subcommittees of Advisory Committee on Energy and

Natural Resources under the Japanese Government and Chairman of the Nuclear Policy Committee of

the Japan Electrical Manufacturer’s Association.

 

Mr. Saito studied at the University of Tokyo and holds BA and MS degrees in Nuclear Engineering Department.

 

KEN SEITZ

 

Ken Seitz is Vice-President, Marketing Strategy & Administration, Cameco Corporation. Ken has been appointed to the position of Senior Vice-President, Marketing and Business Development effective January 1, 2011. He started with Cameco in 1995 contributing as a design engineer on both the McArthur River and Cigar Lake Projects. In 2000 Ken took a position in the oil and gas industry with PanCanadian Energy, working primarily in strategic planning and corporate development. In 2002 he participated in the formation of EnCana Corporation, when PanCanadian Energy merged with another Canadian oil and gas company. He continued to work in a corporate development role for EnCana. Ken rejoined Cameco in 2004 as a member of the corporate development group. Ken was appointed Vice-President, Corporate Development & Power Generation in 2007, leading merger and acquisition initiatives. Ken was appointed Vice-President, Marketing Strategy & Administration in 2009.

Ken is a University of Saskatchewan graduate and holds Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Engineering, as well as an MBA. He is a Professional Engineer registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.

 

YURY SOKOLOV

 

Mr Sokolov joined the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna in 2003 as Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy.  

He was born in 1947 and is a graduate of Moscow University. He began his scientific career in 1971 at the Kurchatov Institute in Moscow, where he became a Candidate of Science and Doctor of Science in 1980 and 1996 respectively. He has worked in the fields of plasma physics and fusion, engineering design of fusion facilities and thermonuclear reactors. Since 1988 he has been active in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), firstly, as a member of the ITER Managing Committee, leading the Russian team of physicists and engineers, and, later, as the Russian representative on many ITER-related inter-governmental boards, which supervised and promoted the work of ITER.

In 1996, he was appointed Head of the Department of Science and Technology at the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Atomic Energy. In this post, as well as fundamental nuclear science, he was also responsible for nuclear power strategy development in the Russian Federation and for innovation across the full spectrum of fuel cycle and waste management technologies. He has initiated several nuclear knowledge preservation activities in the Russian Federation, some of which are linked to IAEA activities in this area.

Mr Sokolov has served as a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of Minatom in the Russian Federation and on various national and international committees for science and technology, on the editorial boards of scientific journals, on bilateral committees for scientific cooperation etc.

ICHIRO TAKEKURO

Mr Takekuro is CEO of International Nuclear Energy Development of Japan Co., Inc. (JINED).

 

He joined the Tokyo Electric Power Company in 1969 and in

1987             became Manager, Nuclear Power Operation Section, Nuclear Power Generation Department. From 1990 to 1994, he served in the TEPCO London office, latterly as Deputy General Manager. From 1994 to 1996, he was Manager and Chief Researcher, Nuclear Power R & D Center. In 1996, he was Deputy Site Manager at Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Construction Office. From 1997 to 2000, he was General Manager, Nuclear Energy Administration Department and from then until 2001, General Manager, Nuclear Energy Programs Department. From 2001 to 2004, he was Director, Site Manager at Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station. In 2004 he became Managing Director and Deputy Chief Nuclear Officer and in 2005, Chief Nuclear Officer. From 2007 to 2010, he was Executive Vice- President, Chief Nuclear Officer and in 2010 became a Fellow of TEPCO.

 

He graduated in 1969 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo.

 

MAKOTO TOYAMA

 

 Makoto Toyama is General Manager of Nuclear Systems Engineering Department of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI).

 

As a senior manager, he is responsible for research and development strategy over the whole range of nuclear technology including light water reactor technology for new build and for maintenance, as well as advanced reactor technology.

 

In 1979, he finished his masters program in nuclear engineering at the School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo and joined Mitsubishi Atomic Power Industries, Inc.  He has been active in the nuclear engineering field throughout his career and has served senior managerial posts at MHI. His expertise ranges from nuclear safety, reactor core engineering and general aspect of nuclear engineering.

 

WANG JUN

 

Wang Jun is the Chief Engineer of the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation Ltd. (SNPTC). Also he is the Chairman of the State Nuclear Power Demonstration Plant Co. LTD (SNPDP).

 

He was born in Anhui province in April 1963.  He has a master’s degree in Reactor Engineering and Safety from Tsinghua University. He has served successively as Deputy Director General of the Department of Nuclear Safety of the State Administration for Environment Protection of China, and as Deputy Director General of the Department of Nuclear Safety of the Ministry of Environment Protection of China.

 

WANG SEN

 

Mr Sen is the Vice President of China Datang Corporation, with the technical title of senior engineer. He has previously taken in succession the posts of vice president, President, Secretary of the Party Committee of CNNC Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Co. Ltd. and was granted the special allowance by the State Council. 

XU MI

 

Xu Mi is Chief Engineer in the Department of Fast Reactor Engineering, China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) and has been technically responsible since 1986 for fast reactor development in the Institute.

 

He graduated from the engineering physics faculty at Tsinghua University, Beijing in 1961. He spent about ten years involved in zero power facilities’ experiments with uranium-water lattices for thermal reactors and in the fast neutron facility for fast reactors. He has then been engaged in the fast reactor technology study, the China Experimental Fast Reactor design and construction and the fast reactor development strategy study.

 

YU JIANFENG

 

Yu Jianfeng is a Vice President of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and is also a Vice President of the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA). .

 

He was born in 1965 and was educated at Tsinghua University, Beijing, where he was awarded a BSc in Nuclear Engineering in 1988. From 1988 to 1997 he worked at the the China Institute of Atomic Energy, where he was Assistant Director and Deputy Director of the Centre for Reactor Engineering. Then from 1997 to 2001, he was Deputy Director, Deputy Chief Engineer and Assistant Managing Director at the Jiangsu Nuclear Power Company. He joined CNNC in 2001 and has been successively Deputy Director and Director of the Nuclear Power Department and Assistant President.

 

YU PEIGEN

 

Yu Peigen, a professor-level senior engineer, is currently holding the post of Nuclear Chief Engineer in China Power Investment Corporation (CPI), Chairman of Shandong Nuclear Power Company and Chairman of CPI Jiangxi Nuclear Power Company. Mr Yu was one of the first PWR NPP MCR operators in China. He has been engaged in nuclear power construction and operation management. He previously held important positions such as General Manager of Qinshan Nuclear Power Company, Director General of the Nuclear Power Department in CNNC and General Manager of the Nuclear Power Department in CPI.

 

ZHANG HUAZHU

 

Zhang Huazhu is Chairman of the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA), holding a Professorship as senior engineer.

 

His career positions include the following: acted as Deputy Director of the State-run 821 Factory; Assistant Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Qinshan Joint Venture Company; Deputy Director of the Office of Nuclear Power of China National Nuclear Corporation; Deputy Chairman of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense; Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority.

 

He is now also Vice Chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. He is an alternate member of the 15^th and the 16^th Central Committee of the CPC and was a member of the 10^th and 11^th National Committee of CPPCC.

 

He graduated from Tsinghua University, Beijing in 1968 with a major in automation control.

 

ZHANG SHANMING

 

Mr Zhang was appointed President of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co., Ltd. (CGNPC) in August 2010.

In 1984 after graduation, Mr ZHANG joined Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co., Ltd. (GNPJVC) to take part in the construction of Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station (GNPS), the first-ever commercial nuclear power station built in the Chinese mainland. From 1996, Mr. ZHANG was the plant manager and improved greatly the safe operation of Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station and Lingao Nuclear Power Station with the importation of international management concepts and methods.

From 2004, Mr ZHANG was the Senior Vice President of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co., Ltd. (CGNPC) and in charge of Strategy Plan, New Projects Development, Investment, Nuclear Power Project Construction, Operations Management, Science, Technology and Research, and Fuel Supply etc.  Under his leadership, all the fields above-mentioned have made important breakthroughs.

He was born in 1964 in Zhejiang Province, China and graduated from Zhejiang University of Thermal Power with a Bachelor’s Degree and is an MBA of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

ZHAO CHENGKIN

 

Zhao Chengkin has been Vice Chairman of the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA) since May 2007.

 

From 1966 to 1981, he was an Assistant Engineer/Engineer at the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC). From 1981 to 1983, he was a Visiting Scholar, Department of Applied Physics & Nuclear Engineering at Columbia University, New York, USA.  From 1984 to 1991, he was Chief Design Engineer of Qinshan II Nuclear Power Plant, Deputy Chief Engineer of NPIC and Deputy Director General. From 1992 to 1997 he was Director General of NPIC. From 1997 to 1998, he was Executive Deputy Director General of the National Nuclear Safety Administration of China (NNSA) and from 1998 to 2002, Director General. From 2002 to 2004, be became Second Chief Engineer of Jiangsu Nuclear Power Company and from 2004 to 2007, he was Senior Adviser of the preparatory office of the State Nuclear Power Technology Company (SNPTC).

 

Born in 1941, he graduated in 1965 from the Department of Nuclear Engineering, Shanghai Jiaotong University.
